What is tod file? How to open tod files?

File type specification:

tod file icon:

The tod file extension is related to the JVC video format, that was developed for JVC's tapeless FULL HD camcorders.

The JVC video format hasn't got official name, but unofficial is called Transport stream on disk or High definition video. The maximal resolution of the captured video is 1080i and uses MPEG-2 video compression. Audio is saved in Dolby Digital audio format. The TOD high definition video format is compatible with M2T MPEG-2 transport stream format.

JVC camcorders, that use standard DVD MPEG-2 video format, save video in the JVC standard definition video format. Standard definition video format uses file extension mod.

JVC distributes with tapeless high definition video camcorders special versions of Cyberlink's applications such as PowerDVD, PowerCinema NE for Everio (PCM4Everio), PowerDirector NE and PowerProducer NE. This applications are recommended as native applications for playback and editing of TOD high definition video files.

The tod video files can be played on Apple Mac computers in the Apple QuickTime, but it is have to install QuickTime Component for Everio.

To edit the TOD video files on Mac computers can be used iMovie. Of course QuickTime Component for Everio must be installed.

Unfortunately iMovie'08 is not supported. Apple Final Cut Pro can also work with TOD files through QuickTime Component for Everio.

For smooth playback of TOD video files without using native Cyberlink's applications, JVC recommends multiplatform VLC media player. VLC media player plays TOD video files natively so without any loss of quality.

Higher versions of the Windows Media Player can play TOD video files, but it is recommended to rename file extension TOD to m2t.

How-To Geek Forums / Windows Vista

Have tried many times to burn/view my videos from my JVC with Vista, but when viewing always get a Rundll32 error message and cannot burn to a disc. Hhave tried to uninstall and reinstall but it says I do not have permission !! Really fed up with Vista and am considering going back to XP but I have to buy it and it is not cheap. last chance for Vista here to see if anyone can help as I am none too good with computers.. just basic and if all works then ok

WMacD, hello. So you have a JVC camcorder -- did the Cyberlink software come with the camera? What is the name of the software (Cyberlink is the company that makes it)? What is it that you have tried to uninstall and reinstall (camera, software, other)?

Typically, you would import the video from the camera to the computer. With Windows Movie Maker (WMM) in Vista, there is an option 'Import from Digital Video Camera' that will copy video from the camcorder to a file on the computer. You can edit the video in WMM and then create a DVD using Windows DVD Maker. These programs, which are included with the OS, are not that great. If you did get some software with the camera, it might be better. What is the model number of the camera? With that, we can lookup information at jvc.com about the software and such.

Hi Scott, thanks for the feedback. The Cyberlink software came with the camera PowerCinema NE for Everio .the Camera was bought in 2007 and is a JVC Everio G Series GZ-MG255.
I downloaded the same software onto my XP loaded laptop and works fine up until the point it askess you to load a blank DVD ( I don't have a burner on my laptop !!! )

As I said it is all there on the Vista system but continually get Rundll32 message popping up and cannot burn. And most annoyingly it does not allow me to uninstall as '...you do not have permission..' !!! which was suggested by JVC....???????

Finding information from JVC and Cyberlink about this camera and it's software is not easy. I'm wondering if the PowerCinema NE software that came with the camera in 2007 might not be Vista compatible. I found this page about Cyberlink software for JVC cameras, but it looks old and has no mention of PowerCinema. From Cyberlink's main page, it looks to me that PowerCinema is primarily playback software, not capture, edit, and burn software. What is the version of the software that you have?

I found this thread on another forum that talks about manipulating video files from Everio cameras. For example, they mention that the .mod files from the camera can be renamed to .mpg. The info from this FAQ at JVC seems to bear this out. It says that the MOD file contains a MPEG-2 Program Stream (PS) with AC3 audio. A .mpg file with these specs should be able to be written to DVD directly from Windows DVD Maker.

Keep looking at JVC support, or in the materials that came with the camera for other information on capture/edit software and Vista compatibility.

Hi Scott thanks for that ..that is what I suspect that it is not compatiable, so I think I will just switch to Windows XP buy a disc delete Vista and load XP ( that is another story as I am not sure now to do ..if you know that would be great if you can be of any help.. ) The PowerCinema version is 4. i think load XP is the only solution ...
